At A Glance, A Spirit Of Aceh In The Weekend

“Matee aneuk meupat jeurat, Matee adat pat ta mita”. That’s what often said in Acehnese language that means “When man died, we know where his graveyard. When cultures disappear, we dont know where to find”. In order to preserve Aceh’s culture, Aceh’s Goverment undergoes Culture and Tourism Department (DISBUDPAR) launches a regular agenda which is held every Saturday and Sunday afternoon. This event was titled Putroe Phang Art and Music Weekend Show. The event featured many kinds of Aceh’s art, such as dance, music, and other Aceh’s traditional show. Besides showing Aceh traditional art, this event also presented modern dance, stand-up comedy, Indonesian dance and other musical and art performances. The objective of this event was to educate people about the Aceh’s cultures.

Pinto Khop Putroe Phang

Putroe Phang is located in the middle of the city of Banda Aceh. This place is one of heritage sites in Banda Aceh. Putroe Phang is a park that was built by Sultan Iskandar Muda for his queen Putroe Phang. The park is near from her bathing place, Gunongan. The park was built because Sultan Iskandar Muda really loved his daughter so that she was not lonely when Sultan is working. Nowadays, Aceh’s Goverment has made Putroe Phang become a tourist attraction that features children’s playground, and also fishing area.

Welcome Greeting

Putroe Phang Art and Music Show is a regular event that was held in order to Visit Aceh Year 2013. This event was started in early Januari 2012 for the first time. The event that held by Culture and Tourism Department became a place to explore the creativity of all artists in Banda Aceh, start from juniors to seniors who already have many experiences. This event was organized by Amel Event Organizer. So, the performers must register to Amel EO.

Putroe Phang Art and Music Show held every Saturday and Sunday. Each day there are six performances from three different talents. Even with a simple stage, the event attracted people’s attention in Banda Aceh. It’s not only the variety of performers that attracted the citizen, but also the excitement from the host made the event more interesting.

The Audience

There are so many performances, not only Aceh’s culture, there are also present others culture in Indonesia and modern performances. The Aceh’s Culture are traditional dance such as Saman, Ranup Lampuan, Rapai Geleng, Tarek Pukat, Ratoeh Duek, Didong Gayo, Tegangin Gayo, and so many Aceh creativity dance, and traditional art such as Debus, Aceh Comedy, Aceh Hikayat, and many more. The others culture there is Papua dance. Besides traditional arts, there are so many modern art performences. Such as magician, modern dance, breakdance, band, stand-up comedy, musical poetry, and many more.

At first, I thought this event only lasted a short time. But look at the public interest, it is unfortunate if this event stopped. From this event, we can learn a lot about culture and also creativity. So, let’s preserve our culture and be creative.

Baiturrahim Mosque

Baiturrahim Mosque is located at Ulee Lheu Tourist Area, an coastal area which is very beautiful and full of history. Baiturrahim Mosque is one of the wll-known mosques in Banda Aceh. The best part of this mosque is the history. This mosque is not only known after tsunami disaster but also from the first time it was built in the 17th century. First, this mosque named Jami' Mosque Ulee Lheu. When Baiturrahman mosque had been burned by the Dutchman, all the people were forced to do Friday prayers at this mosque. Because of that, the name had been changed to Baiturrahim Mosque. Since the first time it was built, the mosque had been renovated for several times. First, the mosque was built with wood construction and simple shape. In 1983, this mosque awas attacked by earthquake and the dome was ruined. In 2004, it was attacked by earthquake and tsunami. This mosque was the only building which survived from the disaster. After tsunami disaster, this mosque had been renovated and equipped with a minaret. So, now it looks like Baiturrahman Mosque.

This is the look of Biturrahim from upfront. This building is applied with Islamic Architecture, Colonial Style and Traditional Style. This mosque has simetrical shape. It has floral ornament and calligraphy at the main entrance which has three pillars.

Before entering the mosque, we passed the gate. The gate has four small domes and round arches which resemble a dome.

Beside the main building, Baiturrahim has a minaret that was built after tsunami disaster as I explained before. The minaret stands on the right side of the moqsue. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to get into the minaret. The minaret's style is not different with the mosque's. It also has windows, but with different color.

Nowadays, Baiturrahim Mosque is one of the tourist attraction in Banda Aceh. Many tourists come here just to see the Almighty of Allah or for moslems, they usually pray here.

Harapan Bangsa Stadium

Harapan Bangsa Stadium is the biggest football stadium in Aceh.
It is located at Lhoong Raya. So, this stadium also called Lhoong Raya Stadium. This stadium has capacity of 45.000 seats. Based on the Wikipedia, this stadium had become one of the greatest stadium in Indonesia. But, due to lack of maintenance and affected by earthquake and tsunami in 2004, this stadium became not magnificent anymore. This stadium had been renovated after the tsunami with direct funding from FIFA.

Well now allow me to tell you about our third hunting session. From the introduction, you can guess where we were. Yes. We were in Harapan Bangsa Stadium.

As always, we gathered at the stadium. But I missed the gathering, because I was late. :D

Actually, the stadium is almost similar to most stadiums in Indonesia. But, the style of its roof is different. It had been adopted from the form of Rumoh Aceh's roof, the front and back side of stadium roof forms the repetition of Rumoh Aceh roof forms. I think, that's what makes the stadium unique.

Harapan Bangsa Stadium is not very well maintained, despite that this place is still a favorite of athletes to practice every day. This stadium is also the headquarters of PERSIRAJA, one of Aceh football club. So that, we usually watch the Indonesia Premiere League here. Besides, there are many sport activities here every day. Maybe this stadium can be said sport center in Banda Aceh. The main sport are football and athletics. The athletics, there are running, throwing, jumping, shot put, etc.
